They do not provide a maid service to clean your room on a daily basis. They do not change your sheets or your towels everyday. They do not provide a turn-down service or leave a mint on your pillow. But what they do do, is provide a clean, pet The bright and colorful cottages of A Laughing Horse Lodge welcomed our whole family, dog and all. -friendly and welcoming environment for their guests.

Staying at A Laughing Horse Lodge in Port Aransas, Texas is like becoming a part of a small community. By the end of your stay, it is common to know, not only the owners’ names, but also your fellow guests’ names, as well as the names of their dogs. It’s hard not to strike up a conversation with someone, as your dog and their dog sniff each other, even if the dogs’ antics make your cheeks turn a little bit red. And you don’t have to go far to take your dog on a walk. The Lodge provides a large dog field on the grounds, where dogs can go to do their business, and they even provide poop bags so you can clean up after your pet.

The rooms are relatively large, with a bedroom, kitchen or kitchenette, a living space and a bathroom. But the most memorable things about them is the color. Our walls were the color of the ocean, a beautiful teal green. Dark greens, blues and pinks also swirled together to create a room that was bright and airy, yet relaxing. The decorations were all reminiscent of the sea, from sea shells lamps to beach scene artwork. It was very easy to put your feet up, and enjoy the peace and quiet.

As for the lack of amenities that you may find at a larger, chain hotel, we didn’t really mind. We can cook our own food, and wash our own dishes and we can certainly turn down are own beds. And if we wanted fresh towels or sheets, all we had to do was walk less than 30 yards away to the laundry and trade in our dirty ones. We did not choose a sterile, cookie cutter chain hotel because it had all these amenities. Instead, we chose a place that would not only allow our dog to stay, but actually let him sleep on the couch. We chose a place that had color and character, a place that welcomed our whole family, dog and all.
