The Codex

The Codex

Book

The Codex by Douglas Preston   ☻☻☻☻☺

Review by Don Miller

Setting:  Modern Day New Mexico and Honduras

The front cover of the book has a quotation from Entertainment Weekly stating "Raiders of the Lost Ark meets the Amazing Race."  That is an appropriate quote.  Many of Preston's books deal with museums, antiquities or archeology and all have an unusual twist.

Maxwell Broadbent summons his three adult sons to his mansion in Santa Fe, New Mexico for a family meeting.  Mysteriously he has disappeared with his $500 million collection of art, gems and artifacts.  They soon discover a videotape explaining he is terminally ill and he has buried himself (and his invaluable collection) somewhere in the world.  He challenges his sons to cooperate with each other, find him and collect their inheritance.

Among Maxwell's many treasures is an ancient Mayan Codex potentially worth more than his other riches combined.  Others learn of the existence of the Codex and they will do anything to possess it and the knowledge it contains.   The Broadbent brothers finally realize to find their father, get their inheritance and save their lives, they must work together.

An intriguing mystery adventure novel with murder and a touch of romance, this fast paced book jumps from Santa Fe to the jungles on Honduras.
